Last week Southern California had another run of red flag conditions meaning very dry/low humidity and strong Santa Ana winds coming from the desert. These are prime wildfire conditions. The county of San Diego will take some preliminary cautions when this happens. Certain high risk areas, such as mountainous or higher vegetation density areas, will have proactive power blackouts during these times to prevent swinging power lines from sparking a fire during the high winds. Areas like Escondido, Cuyamaca, or generally the mountainous eastern portion of San Diego county is affected. During these scheduled blackouts, SDGE will set up Community Resource Centers for people to get A/C or heat and use WiFi during the blackouts. These centers are typically set up at libraries, town halls, or similar venues. The Red Cross helps keep these centers supplied with snacks, waters, and other necessary supplies. Last week we a spent half day driving out to Escondido and Valley Center to help stock up a few of these community resource centers.
